Kent Uzelf
Wat wordt er bedoelt met "Kent Uzelf"? Het is de vertaling van het Griekse "gnoothi seauton" van een bekende Griekse wijsgeer (Socrates?) Het is ook een wijk op Curaçao. Afgelopen zondag bezocht ik haar. Het is een wijk in de buurt van Santa Rosa. De straten zijn onverhard. Het landschap is golvend. Ik reed door de wijk heen. Er zijn hier nog andere kleine wijken, zoals Ma Louisa en New Orleans. Zover kwam ik niet. Bij Theresa kwam ik terecht op de weg naar Santa Catharina. Via de Kaya Nathan reed ik naar het noorden, richting Playa Kanoa. Ik kwam voorbij het landhuis Ronde Klip. Het landhuis zelf zag ik niet, alleen de toegangspoort. Ik reed langs slechte en onverharde wegen. Er lag veel vuilnis in de mondi. De mensen zijn te lui om naar de landfill te gaan en storten hun vuilnis gewoon in het wild. Laatst was er een opruimingsactie op ons eiland. Tonnen vuil werden er opgehaald. Playa Kanoa heb ik nooit bereikt, want dan had ik verder door moeten rijden. Ik nam een weg naar links, ook weer dwars door de mondi. Ergens langs de weg werd er nog aan tuinbouw gedaan, uitzonderlijk voor Curaçao. De meeste groente en fruit importeert men. Het komt uit Venezuela, dat is goedkoper, of uit Nederland, dan is het duurder. Ik kwam terecht bij het crematorium van Brievengat en even later kwam ik langs het gelijknamig landhuis. Dit wordt weer gebruikt voor bruiloften en partijen, zoals vroeger. Het was destijds een bekende uitgaansgelegenheid. Binnendoor en langs een onverharde weg reed ik naar Jongbloed. Dit is de wijk waar we wonen. Het was vroeger een plantage en is opgekocht door de schipper Jan Jongbloed. Dat was, meen ik, in de 17e eeuw. Via de Cassandraweg, de Jongbloedweg en de Ronde Klipweg reed ik naar Noord Zapateer. Op een hoogte had ik een mooi uitzicht over deze wijk. Opvallend was het Indische gebouw, dat sommigen een hindoetempel noemen. Er is een toko in gevestigd (zie foto). Het was mooi weer toen ik deze eilandtour deed. Er zijn nog steeds onontdekte plekjes. Verder is er niets te melden. Bon nochi!

I am a very interested person in knowing things so different as the culture, the way of life of the inhabitants of our planet, the fauna, the flora, and the landscapes of all the countries of the world etc. in summary, I am a person that enjoys traveling, learning and respecting people's diversity from all over the world.
I would love to travel and meet in person all the aspects above mentioned, but unfortunately as this is very expensive and my purchasing power is quite small, so I devised a way to travel with the imagination in every corner of our planet. A few years ago I started a collection of used stamps because trough them, you can see pictures about fauna, flora, monuments, landscapes etc. from all the countries. As every day is more and more difficult to get stamps, some years ago I started a new collection in order to get traditional letters addressed to me in which my goal was to get at least 1 letter from each country in the world. This modest goal is feasible to reach in the most part of countries, but unfortunately it’s impossible to achieve in other various territories for several reasons, either because they are countries at war, either because they are countries with extreme poverty or because for whatever reason the postal system is not functioning properly.
For all this I would ask you one small favor:
Would you be so kind as to send me a letter by traditional mail from Curaçao? I understand perfectly that you think that your blog is not the appropriate place to ask this, and even, is very probably that you ignore my letter, but I would call your attention to the difficulty involved in getting a letter from that country, and also I don’t know anyone neither where to write in Curaçao in order to increase my collection. a letter for me is like a little souvenir, like if I have had visited that territory with my imagination and at same time, the arrival of the letters from a country is a sign of peace and normality and an original way to promote a country in the world.
